One of Saint-Joseph's most coveted bottles, from the most revered estate in the Northern Rhône. Jean-Louis Chave — 16th generation — acquired the historic walled Clos Florentin in Mauves in 2009 from a family of homeopathic doctors who had farmed it without chemicals for generations. The vines, planted on decomposed granite, are over 80 years old. The clos itself was first planted by monks in the 15th century. This is the Chave estate label (not the Chave Selections négoce line) and was first bottled separately in 2015. Fermented in stainless and tonneau with gentle extraction, aged just over a year in neutral oak — built for the long haul. 2023 is a generous, classically proportioned vintage. Cellar a decade-plus or pull a cork in 2028.
