Lafarge-Vial, Fleurie “Clos Vernay”, 2016
Founded in 2014 by Frederic Lafarge—of the legendary Domaine Michel Lafarge in Volnay—and his wife Chantal, Lafarge-Vial brings Burgundian precision to Beaujolais. The family has made exceptional Bourgogne Passetoutgrains for generations, so they know Gamay. Clos Vernay is their monopole: steep granite and quartz slopes with vines over 50 years old, farmed biodynamically from the start. Hand harvested, indigenous yeast fermentation in concrete with 15-25% whole clusters, then 12 months in used oak barrels and large foudres. The 2016 offers ripe fruit with freshness and vibrancy—elegant Fleurie shaped by the same philosophy that defines the family's legendary Volnays. Perfect with duck or earthy dishes.
