Domaine Mosse, Les Bonnes Blanches, 2023
The Mosse family's home parcel, in their own words. Domaine Mosse is one of the benchmark natural producers of Anjou — founded by René Mosse, now run by his sons Sylvestre and Joseph — farming biodynamically with native yeasts and minimal sulfur. Les Bonnes Blanches is a treasured plot on the left bank of the Layon River, facing northeast on schist bedrock with silt and small round pebbles (the bonnes blanches that name the vineyard). The 2023 was challenging — cold, wet spring, hot stormy summer — pushing flowering into mid-June and yielding a lighter 11% alcohol. Direct press, settling in tank where fermentation began, then 36 hours later into barrel to finish, then ten months on lees without batonnage, bottled unfiltered in July 2024. A vibrant, textural Chenin from one of the Loire's most quietly important estates.
