Domaine Richaud, Cotes-du-Rhone Rouge l'Ebrescade, 2023
The serious bottle from one of Cairanne's most beloved estates. L'Ebrescade comes from very old vines perched at 330 meters above the village — a high, breezy site of galets roules and clay that gives Marcel Richaud the structure and concentration he reserves for this Mourvedre-driven cuvee. Vintage to vintage the blend shifts, but Mourvedre leads the way with Syrah and Grenache in support, all aged twenty-four months in large neutral wood. The result is dark, brooding, and saline — black fruits, licorice, sweet spice, garrigue, and a wild, gamey edge that screams southern Rhone done right. Built for cellaring, but already singing with air.
