Domaine Rousset, Crozes-Hermitage Marsanne Vieilles Vignes Blanc, 2019
Stephane Rousset works steep parcels in the northern, granite-and-loess reaches of Crozes-Hermitage, the part of the appellation closest in spirit to grand Hermitage itself. This is his top white, made mostly from old Marsanne vines, low-yielding and both fermented and aged in barrel with a touch of new oak. That barrel work gives the wine breadth and a waxy, textured richness while the granite soils keep it grounded and savory. The 2019 is a generous vintage with ripe fruit and good freshness. Serve it cool, not cold, and pull the cork an hour ahead.
