Domaine Trapet Pere et Fils, Marsannay Rouge, 2023

Domaine Trapet is Burgundy royalty in Gevrey-Chambertin, a family that has farmed here since 1870 and worked fully biodynamically since the 1990s, long before it was fashionable. Jean-Louis Trapet's style is all about pure, delicious Pinot Noir: gentle extraction, very little new oak, and whole-cluster fermentation when the grapes are pristine. This Marsannay Rouge comes from the northernmost village of the Cote de Nuits, an appellation that offers genuine Trapet quality at a far gentler price than the grand crus. Expect bright red fruit, floral perfume, and that silky, transparent texture the domaine is known for. A beautiful, affordable way into one of Burgundy's most respected names.
