Envinate, Lousas "Doad", 2024
A standout in the Lousas range — and the odd one out, geologically speaking. Doad (a phonetic spelling, since 'Doade' is a name protected by the Ribeira Sacra D.O.) draws from several parcels in the town of Doade with vines aged 23-65 years. Unlike EnvĂnate's pure-slate sites, the lower vineyards here are schist, giving way to gneiss and quartz higher up. The wine is 89% MencĂa with about 10% old-vine field-blend varieties — Garnacha Tintorera, Brancellao, Merenzao, and others. EnvĂnate's four-winemaker collective ferments whole-cluster in open-top tanks, presses with a vertical press, and ages a year in neutral French oak. The result is one of their more textured Lousas wines: still light on its feet, but with a darker fruit profile and a stony, almost smoky depth that sets it apart.
