Envinate, Lousas Parcela Rosende, 2024
The granite outlier in EnvĂnate's Lousas series. Rosende comes from a single slope of decomposed sandy granite â the only zone in Ribeira Sacra with granite soils, while the rest of the lineup sits on slate. The vines are 28-60 years old, the blend is roughly 85% MencĂa with 15% old field-blend varieties (Garnacha Tintorera, Brancellao, Merenzao, Grao Negro). EnvĂnate's four-winemaker team (Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos, JosĂ© Ăngel MartĂnez) farms it without chemicals, ferments whole-cluster in open-top tanks for about 35 days, then ages it in a single foudre and a few used 228L barrels. The granite shows up in the glass: where the slate parcels are smoky and dusty, Rosende is more lifted, more taut, with a graphite-and-fennel edge. It lands stylistically between the village Aldea and the top single-parcel bottlings.
