Fuso, Primitivo Puglia 'Calx', 2024
A juicy, unmanipulated Primitivo from Filippo Cassano — the Puglian winemaker better known for his certified-organic estate Polvanera. The Fuso project, in collaboration with importer PortoVino, lets Cassano work in a freer, more direct register: hand-harvested organic fruit from 30-year-old vines, naturally fermented with a pied de cuve, raised in stainless steel, bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. The name 'Calx' is Latin for limestone — a nod to the chalky soils that give this wine its tension. The result is a Primitivo that turns the stereotype on its head: light on its feet, bright with red fruit and orange zest, all energy and freshness rather than weight.
