Giuseppe Cipolla, Le Robbe, 2024

Giuseppe Cipolla might just be Sicily's next superstar grower, working a family farm in Contrada Passofonduto near Agrigento, where old salt and sulfur mines left the soils marked with gypsum, halite, and chalk. Le Robbe means "the goods" in southern dialect, and it delivers: Nero d'Avola with about 15% local white varieties, from dark clay-limestone and a parcel of ancient alberello vines, some over 230 years old. Short maceration, neutral barrels, organic farming, nothing fussy. It's a bright, juicy, light-to-medium red with a serious mineral backbone. Serve it with a slight chill on a warm evening.
