A skin-touched white from Istine, the Radda estate run by the charming Angela Fronti, who has brought a jolt of energy to Chianti Classico. The Bianco d'Istine is made from Trebbiano and Malvasia off a small organically farmed vineyard in Radda partly planted back in 1984. The grapes get a few days of skin maceration in stainless steel before pressing into terracotta amphorae to finish, with aging split between amphora and steel for texture and freshness. It's a characterful, low-key Tuscan white from a producer far better known for Sangiovese, and exactly the kind of off-the-radar bottle worth seeking out.
