Vino Nobile pedigree in an easy-drinking, everyday red. Podere Le Berne is a serious Montepulciano estate, and this Rosso is its fresh, crunchy, immediate side, made from 100% Sangiovese, known here as Prugnolo Gentile. The vines sit at 350 meters in Pieve di Cervognano, a cooler, higher corner of the appellation shaped more by the Apennines than the rest, on ancient seabed soils full of stones, shells and iron-rich sand. That elevation and geology give the wine an energy and freshness unusual for the zone. It's naturally fermented with native yeasts and aged briefly in large Slavonian oak.
