Limnad, Sparkling Riesling, 2020
Limnad is a sparkling wine label created by Nancy Irelan and Mike Schnelle, owners of Red Tail Ridge Winery on Seneca Lake. Nancy earned her PhD from UC Davis working with Carole Meredith, spent 12 years at Gallo as VP of Viticulture and Enology R&D, then moved to the Finger Lakes in 2002. Red Tail Ridge became New York's first LEED Gold certified winery and was a James Beard semi-finalist for Outstanding Wine Producer in 2019 and 2020. The name Limnad references freshwater guardian spirits from Greek mythology. This 100% Riesling is made by traditional method, raised in stainless steel without malolactic, aged four years on lees, disgorged Extra Brut. Bright yellow apple and mushroom aromas, super-sharp and racy, sleek and light-bodied with a crisp, clean finish.
