Loop De Loop, Wallflower Project Orange Viognier, 2023

Viognier rarely gets the orange-wine treatment, which is exactly what makes this one a fun find. Loop de Loop is a small, family-run Pacific Northwest project founded by Julia Bailey, and the Wallflower Project is its playful side label built around approachable, characterful wines. Here Viognier is fermented on its skins, turning an aromatic white grape amber and trading some of its usual peachy plushness for a tannic backbone and texture. The result keeps Viognier's signature floral lift but wraps it in the savory grip of skin contact, unfined and unfiltered.
