Manenti, Terre Siciliane Bianco 'Fuorviante', 2023
Guglielmo Manenti founded his winery in Vittoria in 2006, the inaugural year of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG. He's a member of I Vigneri, Salvo Foti's consortium of Sicilian traditionalists whose roots trace to the Maestranza dei Vigneri guild founded in Catania in 1435. Fuorviante showcases indigenous Sicilian white varieties with the same meticulous care Manenti brings to his celebrated reds. He farms organically with traditional alberello (bush vine) training at high vine density (6,000 per hectare), with limestone beneath the soil providing natural water retention. The I Vigneri philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, native grape varieties, and manual labor throughout. The wine shows elevated acidity and crystalline freshness—expect citrus, stone fruit, and a saline mineral undertow characteristic of southeastern Sicily's unique terroir. A white wine companion to Manenti's renowned Nero d'Avola.
