Mee Godard, Morgon Cote du Py, 2023
Cote du Py is the iconic blue-stone hill at the heart of Morgon, and Mee Godard makes it sing. Born in South Korea, raised in France, and trained in Burgundy before founding her Beaujolais domaine in 2013, Godard makes serious, structured Morgon built to age, not the easy glou-glou kind. This cuvee draws on old vines, around sixty-five years on average, rooted in the manganese-rich blue rock that gives Cote du Py its depth and drive, then gets a long maceration and patient barrel and foudre aging. The 2023 vintage was generous and successful in Morgon, so expect lush, concentrated fruit framed by real structure and mineral cut. Gamay with ambition.
