Mixtura, Blanco, 2021
A Galician white with roots on both sides of the border. Mixtura is the personal project of Gutier Seijo Otero, who spent nearly a decade running the historic Ribeira Sacra estate Dominio do Bibei before launching his own venture in 2019, focused on recovering old vineyards and indigenous grapes along the Mino and Sil rivers. Blanco is a 50/50 split of Treixadura from Ribeiro's granite hillsides and Albarino from across the river in Portugal's Melgaco, both on decomposed granite, both from mature vines. Fermentation runs naturally for 60 days in 25-hectoliter Austrian oak foudre, kept under 20C. The result is a textural, savory white with stone fruit, citrus pith, and a wet-granite spine, a serious northwest Iberian white that rewards a real glass and a real meal.
