Danish-born, trained in France with degrees in astrophysics and enology, he was Chief Winemaker at Dr. Konstantin Frank before purchasing 17 acres on Seneca Lake's glacier-carved hillside in 2000. Ravines pioneered the dry, mineral-driven Riesling style the region is now famous for—their 2003 won "Best Dry Riesling in the World" at the Riesling Cup. This isn't the off-dry, fruity style that dominated before; it's focused, taut, and distinctly American. Finger Lakes Riesling has arrived.
