Saracina, Sauvignon Blanc Lolonis Vineyard, 2022
The fruit here comes from what's said to be the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in California, planted in 1942 and still dry-farmed and organic in Mendocino's Redwood Valley. Old vines like these give a Sauvignon Blanc with real minerality and grip instead of just tropical fruit. Saracina barrel-ferments it with native yeast in neutral Burgundian barrels, skips malolactic to keep it crisp, and rests it on the lees for texture. The very dry, low-yielding 2022 vintage concentrated everything. The result is more wet-stone and brine than gooseberry, a serious white with an old-vine backbone.
