Schiavenza, Langhe Nebbiolo, 2023

Serralunga Nebbiolo at a far friendlier price than Barolo. Schiavenza is a small, deeply traditional estate based in Serralunga d'Alba — one of the most powerful, age-worthy of the Barolo communes. The family farms 8.95 hectares of vines including the celebrated crus of Prapò, Cerretta, and Broglio, and works in a resolutely old-school style: long macerations, native yeasts, large Slavonian oak botti. The Langhe Nebbiolo bottling is the entry to that universe — sourced from younger Serralunga vines or declassified Barolo fruit, vinified to be approachable but unmistakably of place. 2023 brings the savory, structured character of Serralunga in a fresh, current-release style that drinks beautifully now.
