Sidonio de Sousa, Bairrada Branco Riserva, 2021
The Sidonio de Sousa estate traces its roots to grandfather Sidonio, who bottled the first vintage in 1990 after receiving national awards in the 1980s. Today Alfonso and Paulo Sousa run the property, which holds some of Bairrada's oldest vines on clay-limestone soils in Sangalhos. Bairrada's mild maritime climate—cool temperatures and abundant rainfall from the Atlantic—preserves natural acidity in the grapes. This Reserva Branco blends indigenous Arinto, Bical, and Maria Gomes, made in the traditional Portuguese style with aging in old Portuguese oak. Only about 2,000 bottles produced. Mineral-driven with citrus character, lemon leaf aromatics, good acidity, and refined structure. Excellent with grilled fish or shellfish.
