Sierra de Tolono, Rioja Blanco, 2024
When Sandra Bravo came home to Rioja Alavesa after apprenticing everywhere from Priorat to New Zealand, she went looking for the cold, high, and forgotten. Her vines climb the foothills of the Sierra de Tolono, the mountain range that gives the project its name, on old plots over 600 meters up where a constant north wind keeps everything fresh. This is white Rioja built on Viura, organically farmed and raised in steel and concrete with no oak and no makeup, so it stays taut and mineral rather than soft and buttery. It's proof that Rioja isn't only about barrel-aged reds. Bright, dry, and quietly serious.
