Tatomer, Pinot Noir 'Sanford & Benedict', 2023
Graham Tatomer made his name with Santa Barbara Riesling — apprenticing in the Wachau with Emmerich Knoll, then bringing that Austrian precision home to Sta. Rita Hills. The Pinot Noir from Sanford & Benedict is a more recent and pointed addition. S&B is the historic vineyard that put cool-climate California Pinot on the map, planted in 1971 on its own roots in Botella clay loam shot through with chert and shale. Tatomer farms a small block here — Clone 777, hand-harvested, native yeast, 50% whole cluster, aged in once-used French oak — with the same restraint he brings to his whites. The result is delicate and ethereal: citrus peel, dried herbs, weightless intensity. Just 120 cases.
