Thibaud Boudignon, Savennieres "Clos de la Hutte", 2023
Boudignon's grand cru Chenin Blanc, full stop. Clos de la Hutte is a tiny walled vineyard in the hamlet of La Possonnière, planted in 2011 on solid schist (Anjou Noir) with only the thinnest skin of clay-and-sand topsoil — vines essentially rooted in fractured Paleozoic bedrock. That severe terroir gives the wine its character: fuller and more brooding than Boudignon's sandier parcels, with an almost crystalline mineral core. The 2023 is bone-dry, taut and built for the long haul — chalk, lemon pith, white flowers, dried honey and the saline grip the schist imprints on everything that grows above it. One of the Loire's most exciting young single-vineyard whites.
