Vignai da Duline, Venezia Giulia Bianco 'Morus Alba', 2018
Founded in 1997 by Federica Magrini and Lorenzo Mocchiutti in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Vignai da Duline farms old vines with biodynamic principles inspired by Masanobu Fukuoka's natural farming philosophy. "Morus Alba" is named for the white mulberry trees growing amid the vineyards and blends old-vine Malvasia Istriana from red clay soils with a rare ancient Sauvignon clone from flysch marl. Vines range from 30 to 70 years old. Spontaneous fermentation in old French oak, then 11 months in barrique followed by 7 months in steel—unfined, unfiltered, minimal sulfur. Intense straw-yellow with elegant yellow fruit, herbaceous and spicy notes, enveloping structure and persistent minerality. For roasted poultry or aged cheeses.
