Villa Tolnay, Tenger, 2024

Volcanic-soil whites from the shores of Hungary's Lake Balaton, one of the country's next great exports. Villa Tolnay farms at the foot of the extinct volcano Csobanc in Badacsony, where basalt and ancient seabed sediments give the wines a distinct saline minerality and bright acidity. "Tenger" means "sea" in Hungarian, a nod to the prehistoric Pannonian Sea that once covered these hills. This white blend leans on Chardonnay with Riesling, Olaszrizling, and Gruner Veltliner for a wine that's both fresh and creamy, and a smart way to explore a region most people haven't discovered yet.
