Zafeirakis, Limniona, 2022
Limniona was almost extinct two decades ago. Today it's having a moment, and Christos Zafeirakis is the reason. Working in Tyrnavos in central Thessaly — a region with deep grape-growing roots but little bottling history — Christos took over his family's grape-farming estate in the early 2000s and began championing nearly-forgotten indigenous Greek varieties. Limniona is his calling card: a perfumed, structured red sometimes likened to a cross between Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo. The 2022 is fresh and food-friendly in the house style — bright red cherry, dried herbs, savory undertones, and a lively spine of acidity. These aren't big or flashy wines; they're some of Greece's most approachable, transparent reds, and they deliver outsized character for the proposition.
