Zuccardi, Concreto Malbec Paraje Altamira, 2023

Zuccardi's Concreto series takes its name literally — the wine ferments and ages in concrete vessels rather than oak, a decision that keeps the focus on terroir rather than wood. The Paraje Altamira site in the Uco Valley is one of Mendoza's most celebrated high-altitude addresses: sandy alluvial soils over limestone, significant diurnal temperature swings, the kind of stress that concentrates Malbec without over-ripening it. The 2023 is fresh for Malbec — less extracted than a typical Mendoza bottling, more focused, showing the stony mineral character of its particular corner of the Andes. Concrete is doing exactly what it's supposed to here.
