Beaucastel's flagship — a tribute to the family patriarch in a blockbuster vintage. Hommage à Jacques Perrin honors the father (passed 1978) who set the modern course of Châteauneuf's most storied estate. Made only in great vintages from the oldest plots, the cuvée flips the standard Beaucastel script: where the estate red leans on Grenache, Hommage is roughly 75% Mourvèdre — drawn from ancient bush vines on the appellation's classic galets-and-clay-limestone terroir — rounded out with Grenache, Counoise and a touch of Syrah. The 2017 vintage was hot and dry, and Mourvèdre thrived in it. Picked at the start of October, the wine is saturated, structured and built for the very long haul: dark fruit, garrigue, charcuterie, graphite, and a tannic spine made to age. Drinking window opens roughly now and runs decades.
