Larkmead Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018
Larkmead, established in 1895, is among Napa's oldest family operations. Winemaker Dan Petroski crafts this blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc from Calistoga fruit, aging it 18 months in French oak (66% new). Cassis, black cherry, and pipe tobacco weave with graphite, vanilla, and cacao. The tannins, though substantial, are well-integrated and sophisticated, carrying the signature Larkmead minerality into a long, evolving finish. Approachable now but age-worthy.
