The 1997 vintage was not universally declared in the Douro, but several houses including Fonseca bottled exceptional wines that year. As a Vintage Port rather than a Vintage Port, this wine spent extended time aging in wood before bottling, developing more evolved, ready-to-drink characteristics while maintaining structure. Now approaching 30 years of age, this Fonseca shows the house's signature opulence in a more mature, integrated form: dried fruit, toffee, spice, and chocolate have melded together, with the spirit now fully absorbed into the wine.
