Matthiasson, Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, 2022
Napa Cabernet for Burgundy lovers. Steve Matthiasson spent years as one of the valley's most sought-after vineyard consultants before launching his own label, and his wines represent a deliberate counter-movement to modern Napa excess. Organic vineyards, low extraction, cool fermentations, minimal new oak, and lower alcohol produce Cabernet with elegance and food-friendliness rather than power. This is what Napa tasted like before the critic-score arms race—balanced, aromatic, built to age gracefully. Drink now with a light chill or cellar confidently.
A Loire rarity. Reuilly is a small appellation near Sancerre where Pinot Gris has been traditionally grown for centuries—one of the only places in the Loire where you'll find it. Denis Jamain is the sole biodynamic producer in the appellation, farming 17 hectares on prized Kimmeridgian limestone. His Pinot Gris sees brief skin contact during pressing, producing a delicate vin gris with pale copper tones. The style is nothing like Alsatian Pinot Gris—this is lighter, crisper, more ethereal. A true discovery for adventurous drinkers.
