Szent Donat, Kekfrankos 'Magma', 2022

Hungarian Blaufrankisch from volcanic terroir at Lake Balaton. The Kovacs family has made wine here for five generations; Szent Donat was founded in 1994 in Csopak on the lake's northern shore. The Magma comes from the Tihany peninsula—a volcanic formation jutting into the lake—with soils of basalt, tuff, and limestone. Certified organic since 2015. Native yeast fermentation, aged 6 months in used Hungarian oak, unfiltered. Bright strawberry, rhubarb, and cranberry with mineral transparency. Rare quality red from a region dominated by whites.
