Villa Tolnay, Zoldveltelini GV, 2023
Villa-Tolnay was founded in 2004 by Swiss entrepreneur Philipp Oser on the southern slopes of Mount Csobánc, a dormant volcano in Hungary's Badacsony region on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. The property was formerly owned by Hungarian actress Klári Tolnay. Cellarmaster László Nagy manages 20-26 hectares of certified organic vineyards on volcanic basalt soil with ancient Pannonian Sea sediment. The Zöldveltelini (Grüner Veltliner) is hand-harvested, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, no cultivated yeast or added sulfur, no bentonite—relying on settling and gravity for clarification. Aged in both stainless steel and 750L oak barrels on lees for 5 months. Unfined and vegan. Fresh, mineral, and expressive of its volcanic terroir.
