Andrew Will, Sorella Red Wine Horse Heaven Hills, 2006
Sorella is Chris Camarda's answer to the question of whether Washington State can make a Bordeaux blend to stand alongside the classics, and this bottle now has almost two decades to make the case. It's the flagship of Andrew Will, a Cabernet-led blend rounded out with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a splash of Petit Verdot, drawn from old blocks in the Horse Heaven Hills. Camarda has resisted high alcohol and heavy extraction since the late 1980s, chasing grace and a framework of earth and mineral rather than sheer fruit weight, and Washington's Columbia Valley shares Bordeaux's latitude and dramatic day-to-night temperature swings that lock in acidity. At this age the 2006 is fully mature and drinking in its tertiary window, so decant it and pour alongside a proper meal.
