Bruno Giacosa, Barbaresco Asili, 2007

Bruno Giacosa was, simply, one of the greatest names in the history of Piedmont - a producer of classy, classical Nebbiolo with genuine complexity and structure, whose touch others spent careers chasing. Asili, in Barbaresco, is among the region's most celebrated crus, a calcareous-marl slope in Barbaresco village prized for perfume and elegance. The 2007 was a warm, generous vintage that gave plush, accessible Nebbiolo, and at this age the wine should be in a beautifully open phase.
