Cappellano, Barolo Pie Rupestris, 2016

A great classic vintage of one of Barolo's most cult wines: 2016 is widely regarded as a benchmark Piedmont season, combining ripeness with cool-year structure and freshness. Cappellano's Pie Rupestris comes from Nebbiolo on Rupestris rootstock in the Otin Fiorin parcel of the Gabutti cru, Serralunga d'Alba, and is 100% Serralunga in its severe, authoritative character. The house works in tiny quantities and refuses scores and marketing on principle. This is a wine to lay down - the 2016 has the balance and backbone to age for decades.
