Carlo Giacosa, Barbaresco Narin, 2016
The Carlo Giacosa house blend — and one of the smartest ways into modern Barbaresco. "Narin" is the Piemontese dialect nickname for Donato, the founder of this fourth-generation family estate in the Barbaresco commune. Today Maria Grazia and her son Luca farm just five hectares spread across some of the most prestigious crus in the village, and Narin pulls fruit from three of them — Asili, Cole, and Ovello — for a bottling that distills the estate's whole signature into one wine. 2016 was a legendary Barbaresco vintage: cool, classical, structured. Nine years on, this is right at the start of its drinking window — generous and gracious already, but built for the long haul.
