Chappellet, Cabernet Sauvignon Signature, 2008
A classic of Napa's most iconic hillside, with the polish of seventeen years in the cellar. Chappellet planted Pritchard Hill in 1967 — they were the pioneers of that now-legendary eastern Napa ridge — and the Signature Cabernet has anchored the family portfolio for more than five decades. Donn Chappellet's vision was always for a Cabernet of restraint and longevity rather than brawn, and the 2008 (77% Cabernet Sauvignon with Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot rounding things out) was praised on release for its mid-weight elegance. Now in its drinking window, it's evolved into the gracious, secondary version of itself: sweet dark fruit threaded through tobacco, cedar, dried herbs, and that signature volcanic-soil minerality from the hillside.
