Domaine de Marcoux, Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, 2010
If you're cellaring one Chateauneuf, make it this. Domaine de Marcoux, run by the Armenier sisters, was a biodynamic pioneer in the southern Rhone and has long been one of the appellation's benchmark estates, farming organically since 1991. The Vieilles Vignes bottling comes from their oldest Grenache vines, and 2010 is the vintage built to last: structured, pure, and deep, a wine some describe as built like a skyscraper. It's drinking beautifully now with air, but it's the most age-worthy of these releases, with decades of upside still ahead. Patience will be rewarded, but it's hard to blame you for opening one early.
