Domaine La Barroche, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, 2010
A mature Chateauneuf from one of the appellation's great modern vintages. Domaine La Barroche is a family estate of under fifteen hectares in the northern part of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, with Julien Barrot as winemaker since the early 2000s and a portfolio built on old-vine, sandy-soil Grenache. This is the classic estate red, a Grenache-led blend with Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault. The 2010 vintage is widely regarded as a benchmark for the southern Rhone, balanced and structured for the long haul, and at fifteen years it is mature and showing its complexity.
