Domaine Valentin Zusslin, Cremant d'Alsace Brut Zero, 2020
The Zusslin family has been farming in Orschwihr since 1691, thirteen generations deep, and their bubbles are about as pure as sparkling wine gets. This vintage Cremant is Brut Zero, meaning zero dosage and no added sugar, from vines worked biodynamically, and Zusslin doesn't even add sulfur to it. Auxerrois leads the blend, rounded out with a little Pinot Gris, aged patiently on its lees for creamy depth. The result is bone-dry, mineral and alive, a serious grower fizz that punches well above the price of Champagne. If you love zero-dosage Champagne, this is your Alsatian move.
