Ferrando, Carema Etichetta Bianca, 2009
Ferrando is the legendary grower of Carema, the tiny alpine Nebbiolo appellation on steep terraces where Piedmont meets the mountains. This high-altitude Nebbiolo is famously high-toned and perfumed, lighter on its feet than Barolo but long-lived. The Etichetta Bianca (white label) is the annual bottling, raised in a mix of large and small barrels. The 2009 was a warmer, riper vintage, giving this a touch more flesh and approachability; it's drinking very well now.
