Fonseca, Vintage Port, 1992

When most of the great Port houses declared the 1991 vintage, Fonseca famously held back and declared 1992 instead, a bold call that produced one of the classic modern Vintage Ports. More than three decades on, this is exactly what a great declared vintage should be: opaque, opulent, and deeply complex, built on Fonseca's signature voluptuous fruit and tannic grip from foot-trodden grapes in stone lagares. It's fully mature now yet still carries structure to hold for years to come. Decant it carefully off its heavy sediment and pour after dinner. A benchmark bottle from one of the Douro's legendary names.
