Fratelli Alessandria, Barolo Monvigliero, 2021
Fratelli Alessandria is a historic Barolo estate in Verduno with commercial releases dating to 1830. An 1843 article awarded them a gold medal alongside Count Camillo Cavour, Italy's future first prime minister. Today Vittore Alessandria crafts wines that defy easy categorization as traditional or modern. Monvigliero is Verduno's most prestigious cru—due south exposure at 320 meters on blue-grey laminated marls rich in manganese and magnesium. The estate has bottled this vineyard since 1978, from vines now over 50 years old. Native yeast fermentation, extended maceration, then three years in large Slavonian and French oak casks. Elegant, floral, and spicy with world-class aging potential. For braised meats or truffle dishes.
