Giacomo Conterno, Barolo Cerretta, 2021
Giacomo Conterno traces its origins to 1908 when Giovanni Conterno opened a family tavern in San Giuseppe near Monforte d'Alba. First bottlings came in the 1920s, making it one of the first small Barolo producers to bottle their own wine. The legendary Monfortino debuted in 1924. Now run by Roberto Conterno, the estate farms 17 hectares in Monforte and Serralunga d'Alba. The Cerretta vineyard (3 hectares in Serralunga, purchased 2008) has western exposure and clay-laden soils, producing powerful, structured Nebbiolo with vigorous tannins. Traditional winemaking. First Cerretta vintage: 2008.
