Germano Ettore, Barolo Prapo, 2004
Prapo is the cru directly below Sergio Germano's house and cellar in Serralunga d'Alba, planted in part by his father Ettore back in 1967, and it makes one of the most classically structured Barolos in the family's lineup. Serralunga is the source of Barolo's most powerful, ageworthy Nebbiolo, and Prapo's poor, calcareous soils deliver tar, dark spice, and serious backbone. This is a mature back-vintage bottle from a private collection, now around two decades old and drinking in its tertiary window. Time has softened the famous Serralunga grip and unlocked the savory, complex side of the wine. A textbook mature Barolo for the table.
