Giuseppe Mascarello, Barolo Monprivato, 2007
Barolo's aristocratic grand cru in a riper, generous vintage. Giuseppe Mascarello, run by Mauro Mascarello, is one of Piedmont's great traditionalists, ageing in Slavonian casks now around 70 years old. Monprivato, their famed largely family-controlled cru in Castiglione Falletto, sits on calcareous-marl soils that give some of Barolo's most perfumed and refined Nebbiolo. The 2007 was a warm, riper year that produced more openly charming, approachable Barolos, and that suits this bottle now: Monprivato's pedigree in a softer, more welcoming frame. Mature and drinking beautifully. Decant and enjoy.
