Graham's, Vintage Port, 1985
Graham's is one of the grand old houses of the Douro, and Vintage Port is the top of the pyramid: a fortified red made only in the best years and bottled young so it ages for decades in the cellar. 1985 was a celebrated declared vintage — the first unanimous (universal) declaration by every major shipper since 1963 — and four decades on it has arrived exactly where Vintage Port is meant to go: fully mature, its edge softened to amber-tinged crimson, its fruit turned to figs and dried cherry and spice.
