Produttori di Carema, Carema Riserva, 2010
From the heroic terraced vineyards of Carema, where Nebbiolo grows on steep Alpine slopes at the very northern edge of Piedmont, this is the Riserva (Etichetta Bianca) from the village's grower cooperative. It's a selection of the best casks, aged an extra year in large neutral oak (three years total), which trades a little fruit for deeper savory and mineral complexity. The high-elevation terroir makes for a lighter, more perfumed Nebbiolo than Barolo, with electric freshness. The 2010 was a classic vintage, and this Riserva is drinking beautifully at fifteen years. Decant and savor.
